The Ritual
14x16 - acrylic on canvas. London, May 28, 2008. Aunty Marie (now 89) was a good friend of my mother and has known me all my life. She wakes up at 5 am, climbs down the stairs and sleeps again on her living room sofa until 8 or 9 am. I painted this on location 3 days ago at 601 in Eltham while she slept cosily under her blanket. Collection of the artist. March 17, 2010: Received the terribly sad news that Auntie Marie passed away early this morning in a hospital in Woolwich. I will miss her dearly.
