LE PREMIER PAS
5x7 ins, acrylic on canvas. Many of Monet's paintings were copied directly from Jean Francois Millet's images. This is one of them "LE PREMIER PAS" with an Indian twist. Picasso once remarked "good artists copy, great artists steal". Throughout his long career, Picasso often made works of art in response to his predecessors like Degas and Rembrandt, often "quoting" them in this own paintings. The Sterling & Francine Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, USA is presently holding an exhibit entitled PICASSO LOOKS AT DEGAS which manifests just this.
