STILL I RISE
16 x 20 ins, acrylic, June 11, 2014. I was saddened to hear of the passing on May 28th of Maya Angelou, author, poet, singer, actor and wanted to celebrate and honor her fiery spirit which will live on through her powerfully ferocious words.

"You may write me down in history, With your bitter, twisted lies, You may tread me in the very dirt, But still, like dust, I'll rise.....I rise into a daybreak that's wondrously clear. I rise. Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise. I rise. I rise."
