The Palm Readers
24x30 ins, mixed media. January 31, 2016. Nothing like the new year to start looking into the future. Here a group of women in Rajasthan read each other's palms and contemplate the years ahead. In my teens, I studied Cheiro's Palmistry and found it a fascinating pastime and a great way to meet people. Palmistry has it roots in India - 300 BC - and was later banned by the Catholic Church as promoting superstition. I understood then how hungry we all are to know what lies ahead. Have YOU ever had your palm read ?

When I spend time looking at this painting, I can perceive the subtle smell of saffron for some reason, that and a certain type of flower but I cannot identify it. The sweet smell is coming from them, not so much from the outside going towards them. I love the connection that women share.
