Braganza Hotel
16x33 ins, oil on canvas paper. 2004. Oil on Canvas 16 x 33 ins - I grew up in this sprawling hotel in Lahore with its white-washed walls, red tiled verandahs and gardens overflowing with color. Huge peeple, eucalyptus and jamun trees provided shade from the burning sun. Entering the hotel through the main gate, this view is of the Office on the left, 15 hotel rooms on the right and Albert (my uncle) and Emma's home in the far middle. The room where Albert died on Dec. 18, 1983 is on the extreme left. The hotel, across from the historic Railway Station, was demolished in the late 80's. It was mentioned in FREEDOM AT MIDNIGHT, the book about Partition by Larry Collins and Dominique LaPierre.

"WE SHALL NOT CEASE FROM EXPLORATION, AND THE END OF ALL OUR EXPLORING WILL BE TO ARRIVE WHERE WE STARTED, AND KNOW THE PLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME" - T.S. Eliot

I have some cherished memories of my overnight stays and also the lovely birthday parties when all of us children were treated like royalty. One particular morning stands out when we were treated to breakfast in the main dining room and served by the waiter in starched white uniform
