AFGHAN EYES
Acrylic on canvas 16" x 20" - March 2002 This painting evolved after I saw a photo in the Montreal Gazette of two young women fleeing the city of Kabul. I wondered about their relationship, whether they were mother and daughter, or sisters, or just two frightened women taking comfort in being alive. The unfinished painting sat on my easel for many months as I pondered the future of these women. Finally, in June, I signed and framed it reluctantly for my exhibition. It is on the front cover of the 2008 calendar entitled ONE WOMAN'S JOURNEY, published by the Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan organization, based in Calgary.
