Taj Dancers
12 x 16 Acrylic on canvas - completed Jan. 21, 2006. Called the DANDIYA, this originated as a devotional dance in Gujarat. The sticks of the dance represent the sword of the goddess Durga. Women in a circle hold sticks in their hands and perform gracefully to music full of rhythm and loud drum beats. Their costumes are traditional and include heavy jewellry.
